At the tender age of 20 years old, I left my home in Perth, Western Australia on my first ever trip overseas. I departed armed with little more than a UK working holiday visa, a brand new backpack and a grossly inadequate amount of savings. After a teary airport send off, I went out into the big wide world on my first overseas adventure.
As soon as I stepped off the plane, I was instantly hooked on the world that had opened up in front of me. Nearly 20 years later, I’m still travelling, having lived in the UK, Italy and Portugal.
And now I am sharing what I have learnt! Every place I write about I have visited and explored myself. All my tips and advice are hard earnt from experience. I’m not the most organised traveller, so many were learnt the hard way!
No matter where I am, I believe in slow travelling to truly experience and understand a location and its culture. Whether I’m getting lost in a totally new country or finding a new hidden treasure somewhere familiar, I believe in continually keeping your eyes and heart open to new experiences.
I’ve recently returned to Australia, and I’m excited to see my home country from a new perspective. I’m exploring the country with the eyes of a traveller and being blown away by its beauty and character.
And I’m certainly not settling down into the comfort of my home town. Most recently I’ve arrived on the Cocos Islands, a remote atoll in the Indian Ocean. I’ll be spending a year here in tropical paradise, discovering the pristine environment and charming mix of Cocos Malay and Australian culture.
So join me in eternally exploring this beautiful world!
